I am looking for contemporary artists to show my Y10 pupils alongside traditional artists such as Van Gogh and Georges Seurat.
Our project is looking at mark making and landscapes so the artwork by Gordon Cheung is appropriate. I have been talking to pupils about creating landscapes from memory or creating areas which are imaginary, and this work highlights the ideas in class really clearly.
I have also found that Cheung’s paintings are great for KS4 as they show pupils how to experiment with materials and create texture. Cheung uses unusual materials on his paintings such as fabric, sail cloth, newspaper and acrylic gels.
What contemporary artists are you using in your classes? What do you think of Cheung’s work? Let me know in the comments!
I love the images. Please could I look at your scheme of work for this project? Its amazing.
